Re: Kate Smith 100th Birthday Stamp

To whom it may concern:

I request that Kate Smith, the American treasure, who made "God Bless America" famous be honored with a commemorative stamp on May 1, 2007, the occasion of her 100th birthday. While Kate has been gone since 1986, I cannot believe that this great lady has not been so honored. Her long career, vast talent, and true American patriotism must be recognized at this time. The first day of issue could be from Washington, D.C., where she was born, or New York City, where she lived most of her life, or both.

During these difficult times, with global terrorism, etc., what American better represents the ideals of our country? After the shock of September 11, 2001, what patriotic song did we hear so spontaneously sung everywhere but "God Bless America". It was America's Kate Smith who first introduced the song on her radio broadcast on Veteran's Day 1938. She made it an instant hit and it remains an integral part of our American culture. Kate inspired our country during those difficult times and raised hundreds of millions of dollars during World War II rallying a nation. She was the recipient of the Medal of Freedom by President Reagan and yet has not received a commemorative stamp. Who is more deserving?

She loved America to the highest degree. Now it is time for America to honor this great lady.

Sincerely,

Word version of letter
